Tuesday afternoon brought the opening day of district play as the Lady Horns tangled with the Madill Lady Wildcats from Glenn Wendt Field in Lone Grove.

The Lady Horns (3-0, 2-0) will be back in action on Thursday at the Chisholm Trail Classic from the Ballfields at Firelake Casino in Shawnee, while the Madill Lady Wildcats (0-2, 0-2) will be at the I-35 Clash at Marietta beginning on Friday morning.

Lone Grove will take on Piedmont and Tuttle on Thursday.

Game One

Emmy Guthrie wasn’t just good on the mound Tuesday for the Lady Horns.

She was perfect.

The freshman standout made it two wins out of two on the mound this season as she threw a perfect game in the opening contest as Lone Grove won in five innings.

Taleigh Nail got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single.

After Nova Dodson scored on an error in the second to make it 2-0, Jordan Johnson made it 3-0 with an RBI bunt single.

Brooklyn Mason scored after Maci McMurtrey hit a hard ground ball resulting in an error to make it 4-0.

Sami Skelly kept up her early season tear with her seventh total RBI in the last two games, as she registered an RBI double to make it 5-0.

Guthrie and Nova Dodson would finish off the second each with RBI hits to make it 7-0.

Skelly made it 8-0 in the third with another RBI single. 

Lone Grove finished off the game in the fourth inning with another offensive barrage.

After Dodson scored following a bases loaded walk from Mason, McMurtrey slapped a two-RBI double to center field to make it 11-0.

Skelly then made it 12-0 when her fly ball resulted in an error, allowing Mason to score.

Nail and Shelby Stevenson then combined to slap a pair of RBI singles, putting the Lady Horns up 14-0.

Guthrie made it 15-0 with an RBI single, before Logan Graves and Jordan Johnson finished proceedings with RBI’s of their own.

Guthrie finished with 11 strikeouts on the mound in five innings pitched. She has a combined 25 strikeouts in her first two starts this season and is a perfect 2-0 on the mound.

Bailey Gammille took the loss on the mound for Madill allowing eight earned runs on one strikeout and four walks. 


Game Two

While the Lady Wildcats managed to register two hits in the second game, that was about as good as it got for them.

Lone Grove’s offensive firepower kept on rolling as the Lady Horns moved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in district play with another five inning shutout.

Sami Skelly put Lone Grove on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI double to right, before Taleigh Nail doubled the advantage with an RBI double of her own.

Maci McMurtrey and Skelly combined to make it 4-0 in the bottom of the second as each player hit an RBI double and single respectively. 

After a line drive from Abbi Atkinson resulted in an error, Emmy Guthrie scored in the bottom of the third, before Emily Burns made it 6-0 with an RBI single off a line drive to center. 

Skelly struck again in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single before Shelby Stevenson made it 8-0 with an RBI double of her own. 

Abbi Atkinson made it 9-0 to finish off the fourth, before Jordan Johnson scored on a wild pitch to finish the game in the fifth. 

Taylor Mcintyre got the win on the hill for Lone Grove allowing just two hits. She registered seven strikeouts.

Bailey Gamille took the loss on the mound for Madill allowing seven earned runs on 13 hits with two walks for the Lady Wildcats in the district contest.
