Hugh Gene “Spud” Johnson was called to his Heavenly home on August 10, 2017 in Seminole, Texas. He was born to Meddie Anita Lewis and Hugh Layfate Johnson on April 11, 1928 in the Fox, Okla. area. He attended Fox Public Schools and graduated from there in 1946. He married Cleo Cecile Fryer in Henrietta, Texas, on March 8, 1947.  He worked for Cecil Fryer Motor Parts in Healdton, Okla. from 1946 until 1970 when he went to work for White Superior Engines in Denver City, Texas, where he stayed until 1972.  He and Cleo then moved to Pampa, Texas, where he worked for Cabot Industries until his retirement in 1989 when he and Cleo moved to Sulphur, Okla.
He professed his faith in Jesus Christ at the First Baptist Church in Healdton, Okla. in 1953.  He became a faithful member and lifetime servant of the Lord.  He was an ordained Deacon in the Southern Baptist denomination.
He enjoyed fishing, his family, and working on various projects in his workshop.  He was an all around “handy man” who was always willing to help others with any number of projects.  However, his pride and joy in life was his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Meddie; his sister, Blanquetta (Kitty); his granddaughter, Jeannette Lozano and son-in-law, Larry Wayne Reynolds.  He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 70 years, Cleo of Denver City, Texas, as well as three daughters, Ruth Ann McGahey of Ardmore, Okla.; Hughline Reynolds of Ft. Worth, Texas; Connie Lozano and her husband, Victor of Denver City, Texas.  He is survived by his siblings, Rayford Johnson of Eufala, Okla.; Carmelita Wright and husband, Shirl of Edmond, Okla., Carolyn Sue Johnson of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Larry Wayne Johnson of Enid, Okla. He is survived by 8 living grandchildren—Jessica Payne of Ft. Worth, Texas, Michelle Harris Barnes of Ardmore, Okla., Micheal Harris of McMinnville, Ore., Regina Reynolds Brimmer of Ft. Worth, Texas, Brian Reynolds of Ft. Worth, Texas, Joni Clare Lozano of North Hollywood, Califonia, Meredith Lozano of Houston, Texas, and Chelsey Lozano Barrett of Amarillo, Texas.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Seminole Memorial Health Care 212 NW 10th St., Seminole, Texas, 79360 to honor the beautiful and compassionate staff who provided care in his final months.
