LONE GROVE — It’s not often the sequel is better than the prequel.

Monday afternoon though, the second matchup of the season between Lone Grove and Plainview was just that.

The only similarity was the result itself.

Lone Grove once again relied on the arm of freshman Emmy Guthrie as the Lady Horns completed the district sweep over the Lady Indians, 6-0 at Glenn Wendt Field.

Lone Grove now stands at 7-2 overall and 4-0 in district play. Plainview fell to 5-9 overall and 0-4 in district play.

Sami Skelly got the Lady Horns on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the first which scored Brooklyn Mason.

Maci Mcmurtry doubled the lead with an RBI single to center scoring Jordan Johnson in the second.

Shelby Stevenson then brought the hammer down with a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the third, putting the Lady Horns up 4-0.

Stevenson would strike again in the fourth with a sacrifice fly RBI before Guthrie slapped an RBI single to left field.

Guthrie got the win on the mound, throwing a complete game shutout. She allowed just one hit with 13 strikeouts.

Britney Dunlap took the loss in the circle for the Lady Indians, throwing six innings of work. She allowed four earned runs on 11 hits with three walks.

Plainview will be hosting Purcell today, while the Lady Horns will travel to Sulphur for a district showdown of the top two teams in 3-4A.

Following the game, Plainview will be hosting the Plainview Tournament this weekend.
