A man who zoomed down Interstate 35 Saturday night attempting to evade police is now hospitalized after impacting his vehicle into a bridge, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Cody Ray Hinkle, a 26-year-old Lexington man, was airborne for at least 104 feet before impacting the bridge with his Chevrolet Tahoe and coming to rest on SH-142 beneath Exit 33, according to the report.
The chase began in Love County. Law enforcement officers were then joined by officers with the Ardmore Police Department once the man crossed into Carter County, said Lt. Randy O’Hanlon with Ardmore Police Department.
Hinkle sustained a leg injury and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Ardmore after the collision, which Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigated. Reports did not state why the man decided to evade police.
The report did not say whether the man was released from the hospital that night. The Love County Sheriff’s Office was unavailable for comment Sunday evening.
No other drivers were injured.
