Officers in the Reserve Officer Association with Davis Police Department will wash cars in a fundraiser for Murray County Reserve Deputy Earon Newport.
The car wash will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wishy Washy Car Wash off Highway 70 East and Cedar Drive. Officers with both the Reserve Officer Association and 911 Dispatch will accept donations in any amount that day for Newport.
Newport recently went on medical leave due to a throat condition for which she will need medical treatment and surgery, said 911 Dispatch Supervisor Shanna Delong.
Delong said Newport has been with dispatch since March 2014. As both herself and her husband miss work to address her condition, law enforcement in Davis want to pitch in as much as they can.
“This was something that happened overnight, out of the blue. It wasn’t a slow oncoming thing,” Delong said. “When one of our own has something happen to them, we always try to get together and do something for them.”
Dispatch will present Newport with the money raised  on Sept. 27. Those unable to attend the car wash Sunday may contact the office at (580) 622-3918 for details on how to support Newport.
