After a courageous one and a half year valiant battle with cancer, Ada ”Maye” (Hood) Skelton Barton. Maye transitioned to her heavenly home on September 28, 2017. Ada ”Maye” (Hood) Skelton Barton funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday October 3, 2017 at the First Christian Church in Healdton, Okla., conducted by Reverend Sharen Hale.
Maye was born on March 16, 1932 in Cheyenne, Okla. to Inez (Warren) Hood and Sam Hood.  She grew up in Durham, Okla; Anna, Texas; and Merritt, Okla., graduating from Merritt High School in 1950.  She met the love of her life, Johnnie W. Skelton, on a double date and married him on August 6, 1948.  She joined the First Christian Church in Elk City, Okla. in 1949.  Their only child, Deborah, was born on June 1, 1953.  Maye and JW lived in Lindsay, OK. where Maye was very involved in Debbie’s life as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher and director, Girl Scout leader, and homeroom mother.
In 1965, Maye and JW left their home in Lindsay, OK. to move to Healdton for JW’s job with Bethlehem Steel.  Maye went to work for Marietta Sportswear and later worked for Ringling and Healdton Manufacturing as a supervisor, retiring in 1987. After JW’s death in 1983, Maye was blessed with the love of another sweet man, FW Barton.  They married on December 21, 1984. They had a wonderful 18 years of marriage until Barton’s death in 2003.
Maye was known by her family and friends as a great seamstress, cook, gardener, and friend. She loved to cook pies, noodles, and Christmas candies for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Every Christmas, her friends knew they would be receiving her tray of Christmas goodies.  She loved working in her yard and purchased herself a new push mower on her 80th birthday.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her life. She held so many great memories and stories of them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers; RD (Pete) Hood and MD (Sonny) Hood- brother in laws; Loyd Moxley, Roy Skelton, Ben Bell, and Mike Smith and sister in law; Carolyn Hood.
She is survived by her daughter; Debbie Hill and husband Neal of Healdton, grandchildren; Neala Shepherd and husband Bryan of Sterling, CO. and Cullen Hill and Alyssa Wyatt of Healdton, great grandchildren; Camden and Braxton Shepherd of Sterling, CO., sisters; Mary Moxley, Twila Bell, and Wanda Smith, brother; Jerry Hood and wife Phyllis, sister in laws; Clarene Hood and Ruby Skelton. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends, Brenda Hager, Bill Mcintosh, Betty Emberling, and Ruth and Hoot Gilbert, along with many others.
Pallbearers are:  brother Jerry Hood, and nephews; Daryl Hood, Raymond Hood , Randy Hood and son Wyatt, and Steve Cooksey.
Visitation will begin Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. October 2, 2017 at Roberts Funeral Home in Healdton.
