Services to celebrate the life of Peggy Joan Duke of Ardmore, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, in the Chapel of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta. Officiating will be Pastor Jeremy Butler. Graveside services in Rose Hill Cemetery, Wapanucka, Okla., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Born in California on Dec. 21, 1941, Peggy was the daughter of Samuel Allen Belcher and Roberta Ford Belcher. She passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, in Mercy Hospital Ardmore at the age of 75.
Peggy lived in Wapanucka before moving to Thackerville, Saint Jo, Texas, and Fox, then settling in Burneyville, Okla.. She and Harvey Bert Duke were married in Wapanucka on Jan. 26, 1963, and the couple was married for 43 years before his death on June 1, 2006. Peggy earned a bachelor’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, and a master’s degree in teaching from the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas, and then taught a total of 24 years in Thackerville, Muenster, Texas, Prairie Valley, Texas, Fox, and Turner. In addition, she worked in sales promoting advertising products for businesses. Peggy enjoyed traveling with family and friends and lovingly referred to everyone as “Sugar Foot.” A very kind and caring lady, she delighted in taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren who meant the world to her. Peggy enjoyed keeping up with her grandchildren’s sporting events.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Johnathan Duke; daughter, Melvina Duke; sister, Glenda Williams; and nephew, Tim Duke.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Duke of Saint Jo; daughter, Jo Ann Duke of Ardmore; brother-in-law, W.K. Duke and wife Debbie of Galloway, Ohio; sister, Sammie Butler and husband Terry of Altus, Okla.; grandchildren, Kyleigh Duke, Ruston Duke and Amber Dove, Stetson Duke, and Daci Gilliam; great-granddaughter on the way, Adlee Brooke Duke; nieces and nephews, Sheila Lashley and husband Brian, Clint Duke and wife Angie, and Jeremy Butler and wife Angela; numerous great nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Victoria Douglas and Natalie Smith.
Serving as casket bearers will be Ricky Brawner, Ruston Duke, Stetson Duke, Justin Nipp, Travis Nipp, and Danny Stedham. Honorary bearers are Tommy Hartman, Mike Kirkpatrick, Joel Hicks, Dewey Hicks, Curtis Nipp, and Marshall Thomas.
Time of visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
