Longtime Ardmore resident James Theadore “Teddy Bear” Herbert, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at the age of 62 years, 6 months and 27 days, and has moved on to ‘higher ground.’
The Rev. Kirk Rushing, pastor of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate at the Memorial Services to celebrate his life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey- Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory.
“Teddy Bear” was born March 7, 1955 at Lafayette, Louisiana to the late Joseph Wilson Herbert, Sr. and Lorene Ridge Herbert. As a youth he moved to Southern Oklahoma with his family and was a graduate of Springer High School, the class of 1973.
A member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, where he was baptized, he was a van driver for the church and also drove cross country for a basketball team. Having a capacity to care for others, “Teddy Bear” baby sat for family and friends; he also enjoyed watching sports on television.
Survivors who will forever cherish precious memories of “Teddy Bear” include his brothers, Oscar Herbert and wife, Rhode Ann, of Oklahoma City; Joseph Herbert and wife, Pauletta, of Ardmore; his sisters, Zona Herbert Gordon of Portland, Oregon, Estella Herbert Stevenson of Oklahoma City, Avis Herbert Williamson of Wilmer, Texas; and a niece, Beverly Herbert Turner and her husband, Tyrone, of Lawton, Oklahoma.
There to greet him when he arrived at his heavenly home were his parents; his sister, Margaret M. Stubblefield, his brother, Eddie Lee Stubblefield and his special friend, Rhonda Wilson.
The family extends their special thanks to the staff of Aspire Hospice; the physicians and nurses of Mercy Hospital.
