The Rev. Frank William Lawson Sr. was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, July 7, 1939. He was called to his eternal reward Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 from Norman Regional Hospital in Norman. Rev. Lawson was the seventh of ten children born to Lucy Major Lawson and George Lawson.
Rev. Lawson graduated from Keyport High School in 1959 and married the former Althea Joan Golden, Dec. 24, 1958. He joined the military where he achieved the rank of Major in the United States Army. After 20 years, in 1979, he retired and began employment with MITRE Corp, where he again retired 20 years later.
Rev. Lawson pastored Second Baptist Church in Keyport, N.J. and Saint Paul Baptist Church in Red Bank, N.J. He enjoyed watching westerns, which led him to write his first novel entitled “Strangers No More.” The novel was published by Black Rose in 2011. He was a resident in Moore Veterans Center for a short period.
Rev. Lawson is preceded in death by his parents; seven siblings: Calvin Lawson, Winston Lawson, Benjamin Lawson, Natalie Smith, James Lawson, Steven Lawson, and Eddie Lawson.
He is survived by his wife, Althea Lawson, Oklahoma City; four children, Charlene Palmer (George), Oklahoma City, Frank W. Lawson Jr. (Roy Jenna), Maryland, Dr. Wayne A. Lawson (Michelle), Ardmore, and Francine E. Lawson, Oklahoma City; a sister, Peggy Ann Burton; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Local viewal will be held at First Baptist Church, 16 E Street N.E., Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, beginning at 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Secondary services, with full Military rites, will be held at Second Baptist Church, 205 Atlantic Street, Keyport, N.J., Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. Viewing will begin at the Church at 11:00 a.m. until the Celebration begins at 1:00 p.m.
