Ardmore Habitat for Humanity is giving away a gift package of all things Ardmore to raise money for The United Way of South Central Oklahoma.
The giveaway package includes donated items from local businesses like a Living Word Book Store gift certificate, a photo printer, a cookie cake certificate from Eileen’s Cookies and a month of tanning at Beach House Wellness and Tanning, worth about $1,500 total. The winner will be decided by a drawing.
This marks Habitat’s second fundraiser for UWSCO’s annual fundraising campaign, which concludes at the end of the month. Habitat’s President Deanna Wright said this year was the first time the organization has created a UW fundraiser.
“We’ve never really done any fundraisers for the United Way campaign, we’d just come together as a board and donate, but that doesn’t allow us to give back as much as we wanted to,” Wright said. “So we formed a committee this year and set a higher goal and set out to do some actual fundraisers.”
For their first fundraiser, they sold and delivered boxes of Hurts Donuts which raised about $800 last month. Wright said their board doesn’t have any specific person in charge of fundraising, so each one is a group effort.
“This is the first time we’ve ever done one like this,” Wright said. “We had a meeting and brainstormed. We’d done the Hurts Donuts fundraiser last month, so this is our last fundraiser for the campaign this year.”
Next year will mark Ardmore Habitat for Humanity’s 20th anniversary.
“As the years go by and we have more needs for family support or church relations or fundraising or building, we’ve just been meeting those needs,” Wright said. “We’ve just been growing.”
Tickets for the drawing are $5 for one, $20 for 5 and $40 for 10, and can be purchased at Good Time Lanes, Wright’s Customs, Sherman Williams, Beach House Wellness, Jarvis Pools, the Habitat ReStore, Builder Bob’s, The Stag, Living Word Books and Eileen’s Cookies. The last day to purchase tickets is November 9.
