A 71-year-old Ardmore woman died Thursday afternoon about three miles north of Marietta, after the car she was driving departed the roadway and collided with a tree, according to a report from Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Peggy A. Ellis was pronounced dead on the scene after her 2006 Nissan Altima entered a broad slide down after departing the roadway to the left and hitting a standing tree while traveling U.S. Highway 77 and Shiggin Creek, according to the report.

According to trooper reports, Ellis was pinned inside the vehicle for approximately one hour and 30 minutes before Marietta and Lake Murray Fire Departments used the Jaws of Life to extricate her from the car.

Her body was transported by Craddock Funeral Home to the State’s Medical Examiner Office in Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol said what caused the collision is still under investigation.
