Hundreds fueled up on barbeque and supported the Ardmore Police Department Shop with Cops event Thursday afternoon.
The Heroes with Hope of Southern Oklahoma Foundation helped coordinate the fundraiser for Shop with Cops this year. Executive Director Melissa Wooly said about 20 hands were on deck all afternoon serving more than 1,000 sandwiches, chips and drinks in $5 meals.
“We’ve been swamped,” Wooly said. “It’s been pretty much non-stop.”
Shop with Cops originally began about 30 years ago. In 2016, the program joined forces with Heroes with Hope to better serve the community.
Heroes with Hope, with a mission to empower children by meeting essential needs, hopes to expand Shop with Cops and coordinate future programs, including mentoring programs for at-risk youth, health education and more charity events.
Ardmore resident David Dowdy had strong feelings about the Shop with Cops cause.
“I’ve seen it before. It’s perfect,” Dowdy said. “We see them in town everyday anyway.”
Applications for Shop with Cops will be available through Nov. 20 at the Ardmore Police Department at 23 S Washington St. or the Heroes with Hope office at 16 E St. SW, #103.
Shop with Cops will take place Dec. 4 and 5.
