With a postseason matchup with Marlow on the horizon, Plainview quarterback Spencer Somerville and the Indians football team sent off the regular season with a 41-14 bang over the Madill Wildcats, Friday at Plainview Stadium.

The Plainview offense ran wild over the Wildcats, amassing 331 yards rushing.

Somerville led the way for the Plainview rushing attack, totaling 209 yards and three rushing touchdowns on 14 carries in addition to completing 9-of-17 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown to seal the Indians district 3A-4 runner up finish. 

Plainview running back CJ Jefferson, who carried the ball for 104  yards and two touchdowns, got the scoring started for the Indians in the first quarter, finding the end zone from the 4-yard line.

In the second quarter, Somerville took over, accounting for three touchdowns to build up a 28-0 halftime lead.

Plainview’s passing attack struck first, with Somerville connecting with receiver Lane Ross on a 5-yard touchdown pass to give the Indians a 14-0 lead. Somerville then made multiple trips to the end zone on the ground, breaking free on touchdown runs of 46 and 17 yards.

The Wildcats got on the scoreboard in the third quarter after Madill quarterback Seth Coleman connected with Asa Robertson on a 7-yard touchdown pass. 

Somerville would respond, this time breaking free on a 36-yard touchdown rush to bring the score to 34-7 to close out the scoring in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, CJ Jefferson found paydirt for his second touchdown of the game, scoring from three yards out to extend Plainview’s lead to 41-7.

Madill’s Robertson would cap the scoring for the game with his second touchdown reception after quarterback Colton Jones found the receiver on a 28-yard touchdown pass to cut Plainview’s lead to 41-14 with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. 

The Indians defense held the Wildcats to 203 yards of offense while forcing two fumbles and three interceptions in the win. 

Plainview’s Jaxon Clemons, Justin Anderson and Tyler Yakubchik each had interceptions in the game. 

Plainview receiver Blake Nowell led the Indians receiving corp with 33 yards on two receptions. CJ Jefferson caught three passes for 32 yards in the win.

Madill racked up 128 yards passing in the losing effort. Colton Jones led the way with 77 yards and a touchdown on 4-for-5 passing, and Seth Coleman passed for 51 yards and a touchdown, completing 7 of his 14 attempts. 

Dekevis Jordan led the rushing attack for the Wildcats with 20 carries for 56 yards. Madill’s Trevor Goff led the Wildcats in receiving with seven catches for 62 yards while Asa Robertson finished the game with 56 yards receiving and two touchdowns on three catches. 

With the victory, Plainview moves to 8-2 and 5-1 in district. 

The Indians will face the Marlow Outlaws, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Plainview Stadium in the first round of the class 3A playoffs. 

Madill’s 2017 campaign came to a close on Friday, ending the season 3-7 and 0-6 in district.
