Being raised in rural southern Oklahoma, he graduated Ardmore High School in 1949, and then went to work in the oil fields of Oklahoma. He met the love of his life, Laquetta Joyce (Anderson) Hignight, and they were married Feb. 16, 1950, in Henrietta, Texas. From that union came two daughters, Carolyn (Sissy) and Deborah. Laquetta (Andy) preceded him in death, June 4, 2001.
Billy J. Hignight was the fifth of nine children. His parents; a sister, Geneva Barmen (Hignight) Pruitt; brothers, William Edward (W.E.) Hignight, Harold Raymond Hignight, Charles Gene Hignight; and three unnamed siblings preceded him in death. He is survived by one brother, Royce David Hignight and wife, Lou Ann (Williams) Hignight of Biloxi, Miss.; daughters, Carolyn (Sissy) Means and husband, John C. Means of Ardmore, Okla., and Deborah Jeannie Maddox and husband, William James Leidemann, Ardmore, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Billy had three grandchildren, John C. Means, Jr., Leah Jeannie Maddox and Gregory John Maddox, and six great-grandchildren, Gregory Scott (Scotty) Pelkey, Emily Claire Means, Evan William Means, Eloise Maddox, Oscar James Maddox and Mavis Maddox.

Billy loved the Lord and his only son, Jesus Christ our Savior. He was always willing to help any person in need, and was indeed a true Christian.

The family wishes to thank Salli Hunter and Alfred Bob, Jr. for the loving and excellent care and concern for Billy.
