Anyone who wants to run a 5k with their dog is in luck.
This year marks the first Doggie Dash 5k, an informal run in Ardmore Regional Park slated for 3 p.m. Dec. 9. Runners need to register by Nov. 27th.
“As long as your dog can make it through a 5K, they’re welcome,” Recreation Supervisor Tes Stewart said. “You can put them in a stroller, you can carry them, whatever you’ve got to do. We just ask that you do have a dog on a leash.”
Stewart said the run will include an ugly Christmas sweater contest. The ugliest sweater will net the winning pup a stocking full of treats and toys.
“We encourage you to dress your dog up in an ugly Christmas sweater,” Stewart said. “We’ll have a group of people to vote.”
Stewart added that matching dog and human sweaters are a plus.
The run will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., well before the Festival of Lights begins for the evening.
Register at the Parks and Recreation office located at 2704 N Rockford Road at Regional Park. Runners can register the day of the event, but won’t be guaranteed a Doggie Dash t-shirt. Registration is $25. Call Ardmore Parks and Recreation at (580) 223-4844 for questions about registration.
The dash is one of a handful of late-November early-December events. Ardmore’s Christmas Tree Lighting will take place Nov. 28, Santa’s Workshop will mark the end of the Festival of Lights on Dec. 1 and 2 and Breakfast with Santa is slated for Dec.  9, the morning of the Doggie Dash. The Stocking Stroll, a shopping event in downtown Ardmore, is schedule for Dec. 16.
