The Broadway House, a residential sober living facility for men seeking recovery from alcohol or substance abuse, is sponsoring a toy drive for area children in need.

The Heart of Angels Toy Drive will have drop-off locations set up at Crystal Rock Cathedral on 12th Avenue NW. and The Grace Day Center on A Street NW. running through Dec. 15.

Broadway House employee Doug Brown said the inspiration for such a drive was based in his faith and from a desire to give back to the community in some fashion. It also exhibits how those undergoing rehabilitation can change for the better, he said.

“Our inspiration was God. We just want to show this community that people can change in a community,” Brown said. “That’s what this does -- it gives us a chance to reach out and help other people’s lives.”

Brown said that in addition to the toys, Payless ShoeSource has donated more than $3,000 worth of footwear for the cause.

The Broadway House will be hosting a party Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Crystal Rock Cathedral to present the children with gifts.
