Longtime healthcare worker, Betty Joan Cope, passed away Tuesday, November, 21, 2017, in an Ardmore convalescent home following a time of failing health.
Betty was born to the late Roy Newton Cole and Mahala Werstler Cole, February 27, 1927, at Pierceton, Indiana. She and Orville Anderson Cope, Jr., were married August 2, 1946, at Fort Worth, Texas, and celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2011. They were the parents of four children, sons, Dennis Michael, Gary Allen, Douglas Lynn and daughter, Judith Joan.
A member of the First United Methodist Church, Betty was a receptionist and office clerk for Doctors Ralph Murphy and Roger Reid for many years; and was later an admissions clerk at Memorial Hospital of Southern Oklahoma. A person of faith, Betty lived life serving others. She also enjoyed membership in the Elks and Moose Lodges.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Dennis Michael Cope and Rita; Gary Allen Cope and Evelyn; Douglas Lynn Cope and Debbie; Judith Joan Paisley and Cliff; also by grandchildren, Cliff A. and Amanda Paisley, Gary A., Jr., Jeremy A., Sara, David, Derek and Darren Cope; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Maddox Cope, C. J., Isaac and Dakota Paisley, Dexter and Maddox Cope. Betty’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Betty’s kind spirit and zest for life will live on through them Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Orville Anderson Cope, Jr., March 18, 2012; five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, in the Centennial Chapel of Harvey- Douglas Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Leroy Holman. Burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park will be with the assistance of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Butch Carter, A time of visitation and support for family and friends has been set from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday evening at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
The family asks that memorials be made to Cross Timbers Hospice or the Maranatha Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund.
