After getting off to successful starts to the season, the Ringling and Healdton varsity basketball teams made the trip to the Pantherdome Thursday to begin play at the Saint Jo Tournament in Saint Jo, Texas.

It was a split day for the Ringling teams as the Lady Blue Devils won a blowout against the Saint Jo junior varsity, while the Blue Devils were edged by the Muenster Sacred Heart Tigers.

The Lady Blue Devils (2-0) managed to win with a 65-3 score, and will face either Denton Calvary or Prairie Valley today in the second round of the tournament.

As for the Blue Devils, they were defeated by the Tigers from Muenster Sacred Heart.

Ringling held an 11-9 lead after the first quarter, before seeing the Tigers close to within one point at the halftime break at 21-20.

In the third quarter the Blue Devils were outscored 15-12, before the Tigers closed the game with an 11-6 run in the fourth quarter.

Ringling (1-1) was led by Caige Calvert with 13 points followed by Zaine Sanner with 11 points.

As for the Healdton Bulldogs, their opening game of the tournament was smooth sailing as 11 players scored in a 56-16 blowout against the Saint Jo junior varsity squad.

HHS held a commanding 17-3 advantage after the first quarter, before padding its advantage to 31-9 going into the halftime break.

The Bulldogs managed to hold the Panthers to just two points in the third quarter as Healdton led 51-11, before both teams scored five points in the fourth quarter.

Coty Scott led the Bulldogs (2-0) with 10 points in the game, followed by Colton Pickelsimer and Josh Harvey each with eight points.

The Lady Bulldogs meanwhile also enjoyed a winning start to the tournament as they were able to take down the Goldburg Lady Bears in the late game of the day by a score of 51-12.

HHS came out strong in the opening quarter, leading 20-2 going into the second.

The Lady Bulldogs kept applying the pressure just before halftime as Healdton went into the locker room with a commanding 25-5 advantage.

Following the interval, the Lady Bulldogs put the game away in style with a 19-0 run in the third quarter.

Both teams managed to score five points apiece in the fourth quarter.

Macey Howell led the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points, with Bayli Thompson scoring 10 points. 

A total of 11 players scored for the Lady Bulldogs in the game against the Lady Bears.

Healdton now sits at 2-0 on the season and will be in second round action today at Saint Jo.

Following this weekend, both Healdton teams will return home for games against Empire on Tuesday night before taking part in the Wilson Black and Gold Classic beginning next Thursday.

Both Ringling teams will be off on Tuesday and will also compete in the Black and Gold Classic next week.
