The Springer community woke Saturday morning to news of tragedy after an overnight blaze claimed the life of an area resident.
Area volunteer fire departments responded to the scene of a house fire early Saturday morning that claimed the life of 56-year old Springer resident Robert Don Ellis, Jr.
Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant said his department was notified about the fire at 1:30 a.m.
Bryant said the house was
engulfed when area volunteers arrived to fight the blaze, later finding the deceased victim after containing the fire.
The Springer Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze along with the Gene Autry Volunteer Fire Department and Ardmore Airpark firefighters.
Bryant said the cause of the fire was still under investigation by the Fire Marshall.
“It’s an unfortunate situation,” Bryant said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family at time like this.”
