LONE GROVE — There were plenty of thrills and offense on display on the opening day of the Longhorn Invitational at Lone Grove Thursday as multiple area girls teams competed.

Plainview 95

Centennial 21 

It was smooth sailing for the Plainview Lady Indians in their opening contest, as they cruised to a blowout victory against the Lady Bison from OKC Centennial.

Plainview raced out to an early 23-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter, before putting the game out of reach at 58-13 going into the halftime break.

The Lady Indians led 79-15 after three quarters, and added 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Madeline Williams led the Lady Indians with 18 points followed by Tally Morris with 16 points.

Anna Simmons added 13 points, with Megan Winchester putting in nine points.

Amiya Howard and Emilee Hudson each scored eight points.

Plainview will meet Washington in the semifinals today at 4 p.m.

Washington defeated the Lone Grove JV squad in their opening round contest.

Marietta 11 

In the final girls game of the day, the host Lone Grove Lady Horns earned a victory over the Marietta Lady Indians.

After seeing the game tied at 2-2 with 7:21 left in the first quarter, the Lady Horns went on a 13-2 run to lead 15-4 going into the second.

Lone Grove’s defense stepped up before halftime, limiting the Lady Indians to just one point in the second quarter, leading to a 31-5 score at the break.

The Lady Horns went on a 10-2 run in the third, before closing out the game with an 18-4 fourth quarter.

Taleigh Nail led the Lady Horns with 21 points on the night, followed by Cheyanne Davis and Madison Anderson each with 10 points apiece.

Marietta was led by Hannah Taylor with eight points.

Lone Grove will play this evening in the semifinals against Marlow at 7 p.m. while Marietta will take on Dickson at 10 a.m.

Despite staying close for much of the first half, the Dickson Lady Comets weren’t able to take down the Marlow Lady Outlaws, as they fell in their opening round contest.

Dickson managed to battle back at the end of the first quarter from a 7-0 deficit to trail by one at 7-6 going into the second.

Unfortunately, the Lady Comets offense stalled out before halftime as Marlow led 27-17.

The Lady Outlaws outscored Dickson 14-10 in the third quarter, before Dickson scored 16 in the fourth.

Clary Donica led the Lady Comets with 13 points, followed by Sienna Young with eight points. 

Dickson will play in the consolation bracket this morning at 10 a.m.
