Ardmore Young Professionals is poised to start its 12th year with a kick-off party next Thursday.

AYP members and newcomers alike are invited to a party from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25, at the Courtyard by Marriott Ardmore on North Rockford Road. AYP is for residents of southern Oklahoma between the ages of 21 and 40 who want o get more involved with their community.

AYP president Lyndsi Cain said the kick-off will be a chance for current members to get in the loop and for newcomers to learn about the organization.

“We’re shooting for more of a meeting setting,” Cain said. “We’ll tell each individual crew all of the dates for all the events, so new people can figure out if they want to be plugged in with a crew.”

AYP is divided into different crews that serve different purposes. Some members are more focused on socialization, while others focus more on service projects or special events.

Cain said the group has grown in the last year and seeks to expand even more.

“Our goal is to get more people involved this year,” Cain said.

AYP holds different events throughout the year, including charitable efforts like backpack drives and coat drives as well as more social activities like downtown scavenger hunts and corporate fitness challenges. The group also volunteers at events like Night to Shine, a prom night experience for people with special needs.

“We’re looking for people who want to get involved, whether that means giving back to the community or just meeting people,” Cain said.
