Funeral services are scheduled for Thelma “Ruth” McMillon at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, Ardmore with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore. The family will host a visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 at Craddock Funeral Home.
Ruth went home to be with her Lord, Wedneday, Feb. 21, 2018. Ruth was born Nov. 23, 1934, in Ridgeway, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Bishop and mother, Alice (Tubb) Bishop, brother, Johnny Bishop and two half sisters, Nina Faye Stewart and Eva Mae Wallace.
She and Charles were married Aug. 25, 1957, in Dallas, Texas and have made their home in Ardmore since 1964. They were happily married for 61 years.
Ruth graduated valedictorian from high school in Tyler, Texas, graduated from Dallas Business College in 1954 and attended Murray State College. She worked from the age of 18 beginning at Sears Distribution Center in Dallas and from there she worked at the General Motors assembly plant in Arlington, Texas as purchasing secretary for seven years. After moving to Norman in 1961, where Charles attended OU Pharmacy College, she transferred to the General Motors Allison Division in Oklahoma City. After graduation, the couple moved to Ardmore, and before the Uniroyal plant was built, she began working for Uniroyal as engineering secretary, then in accounting, and later in human resources until she retired in 1994.
Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church, Ardmore where she was active in her Sunday school class for many years. She also served on the Lord’s Supper Committee.
She was voted outstanding woman in ESA in 1970 and was a member of Bide-a-Wee Social Club.
She is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; son, Charles Dale McMillon and wife, Sheri, of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Lori Lynn Randall and husband, Scott, of Edmond; sister, Dorothy Deas of Cordova, Tenn.; grandchildren, Eric Randall and wife, Micaela, of Oklahoma City, Holly Randall of Oklahoma City, and Taylor McMillon and Sarah McMillon of Wilmington, N.C.; sister-in-law, Janet Lott and husband, Jerry, of Lexington, Ky.; nieces, Mischelle Isernhagen, Carol Deas and Janice Deas; and nephew, Jimbo Deas and Rick Isernhagen.
She was preceded in death by brother, Johnny Bishop and two half sisters, Nina Faye Stewart and Eva Mae Wallace.
Ruth was a loving wife and mother who loved to do things for family and friends. She was a leader by nature, a planner, advisor and loved to entertain. She led by example in her Christian life to family and all who met her. To say “She will be missed” goes without saying.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dale McMillon, Scott Randall, David Kirkpatrick, Jack Murphy, Lee Piatt and Buddy Brock. Honorary bearer will be Dennis Flanagen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, Ardmore 207 C St. N.W., or the First Baptist Church, Ardmore 225 First Ave. S.W.
