Today, families with young children can drop by the fire station for a safer ride home.
The Ardmore Fire Department will be selling car seats for $10 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Fire Station one on Rockford Road in Ardmore. Firefighters will also install and fit the seats.
Emergency Management Director Amber Wilson said the event is held every third Thursday of the month, with the exception of December.
Wilson said usually they install about 15 car seats. At their busiest, they’ve installed about 30.
“We haven’t had one that busy in a long long time.”
Expectant mothers who are two months from their due dates can get a car seat as well.
“The cheapest you can usually get them is about $50, so $10 is huge,” Wilson said.
Families can pick up one seat per child. The seats can be used for newborns and children as old as eight.
