Lighthouse Behavioral Wellness Centers will host an art show to bring awareness to mental health and substance abuse concerns next month in Pauls Valley.
May is national mental health awareness month. The art show will take place in Pauls Valley on May 17.
“The purpose of the show is to bring awareness to people’s struggles,” said Kristen Smith, a social worker with Lighthouse and the coordinator for the show. “Those who struggle with mental health and substance abuse issues can still be productive members of society. They have things to contribute, and art is part of that.” Smith said they hope the art show will draw community members, including those who have dealt with mental health issues, and start a conversation about the value each individual brings to the community.
Artists from all over Southern Oklahoma are invited to submit works of art including visual and written pieces. “We welcome anyone to submit their work for the show,” said Nikkie Love. Works can be submitted at the Ardmore location on South Commerce through May 9th. Love will be the contact person at the Ardmore office for any questions. She can be reached by phone at (580) 223-5070.
