The Ardmore Dragway’s 10th annual spring swap meet and flea market starts today at noon as planned, but Saturday’s car show may be canceled.
Dragway instructor Rob Ragland said organizers will make a decision today. The swap meet and car show are fundraisers for the Children’s Shelter in Ardmore.
“We’re going to check and see,” Ragland said. “We have to make a decision sometime [Friday] afternoon, but right now it’s not looking promising.”
Ragland said the decision will be announced on The Ardmore Dragway Facebook page.
He said if the car show goes according to plan, they expect about 100 entries. 100 or more vendors usually participate in the swap meet, but inclement weather could change that as well.
“We’re hoping for the best,” Ragland said.
Ragland said this wasn’t the first time capricious April weather has caused trouble for the dragway. Two races were canceled this month due to weather conditions.
“We’ve dealt with weather every weekend, trying to get a race in,” Ragland said. “We’ve never had a rain out on the swap meet in 10 years, but until you get to June 1 the weather is a total gamble.”
Ardmore Dragway is located 7 miles north of Ardmore on Highway US 77 North, just south of Springer.
