Hickory Creek Child Center, a nonprofit preschool that teaches children from the ages of 18 months to 4 years old, is hosting a spaghetti dinner and silent auction Saturday evening.
Center Director Joanne Thomas said the annual event will begin at 5:30 with a silent auction and continue until about 7 p.m.
“This is something the board has done for quite a few years,” Thomas said. “It’s one of our major fundraisers.”
Silent auction items include gift baskets, gift certificates for local restaurants, a grill from Lowe’s, oil changes, passes to Urban Air and the YMCA and two nights in a cabin on Lake Travis. Different classes made different art projects for the auction as well, including quilts, paintings and sculptures.
“The parents love to see those types of things,” Thomas said.
Thomas said the center is currently ranked as a two-star center by the Oklahoma Reaching for the Stars program, but is working to become a three-star center, the highest level possible.
“We’d be the second center in Carter County with a three-star designation,” Thomas said.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Dinner includes spaghetti with ground beef and Italian sausage, salad and garlic bread.
“We usually have quite a crowd,” Thomas said. “It’s not just for families, we invite the community as well. It’s a community event and we’d love for anybody to come.”
