In celebration of the summer season — and a newly installed park area — the Community Children’s Shelter of Southern Oklahoma is hosting a ninja fitness challenge and summer kick off bash.
The Shelter’s new outdoor entertainment was made possible by the Jerome Westheimer Family Foundation, the Kohaw Foundation, and the OutKast 4 Christ group from WOW Church. These groups collaborated to purchase and install an obstacle-course-style park geared toward adolescents.
Last fiscal year, the Shelter housed 202 children from a wide range of backgrounds. While they are able to accept children from birth to age 17, the average age of Shelter residents is 14.
Staff and residents have patiently awaited the completion of the park project.
To celebrate its completion, the Shelter has teamed up with Dollar General Distribution, Southern Markets, and community donors to open the park with a party. The new equipment will be used for a ninja style challenge. Winners will nab sweet prizes, including a Fitbit, Ardmore Dragway Tickets and swag, or a restaurant gift card.
Free food, drinks, and family-friendly music and fun will be open to the community from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, May 25 at 15 Monroe NE.
