On June 22, Sara’s Project will host its annual “Chair-ity Nite” fundraiser at the Ardmore Convention Center. The event will include dinner and drinks along with a silent and live auction to raise funds for their organization. Sara’s Project provides crisis management skills training, suicide prevention training, and a sexual assault response team to aid sexual assault victims.
“You know how when you go to auctions, it’s usually baskets?” Executive Director Kinsey Price asked. “Well, ours is a play on words. We call it the ‘Chair-ity Nite’ because instead of baskets it’s chairs.”
Every year there is a man’s chair, a woman’s chair, an OU chair, an OSU chair, and the “Discover Oklahoma Chair.”
“Everything in the Discover Oklahoma Chair is made in Oklahoma,” Price said. “For example there’s a lady in Burneyville that makes cedar furniture. She cuts the cedar down in Oklahoma and makes these really cool pieces.”
In addition to the live auction pieces described, the silent auction will also include numerous, unique items. These items typically come in themed bundles.
“Last year we had a vintage wooden Coors chest, and it came with a guide to Striper fishing.” Price said. “We also had a crawfish boil table that sits on top of a trash can. It came with a gift certificate for crawfish along with all the fixings for a crawfish boil.”
On top of these auction items, those who make donations to become gold and silver sponsors are entered into a drawing for the Mystery Prize. This drawing is exclusive to the gold and silver sponsors, and nobody else can buy their way into the drawing. Last year the prize was a two-night stay at Lake Austin, and this year’s prize promises to be just as exciting.
A final prize of the night will be awarded to the winner of the raffle. Raffle tickets are $20 a piece and only 200 tickets will be sold, so your chance of winning is extremely high when compared to other raffles. The raffle prize will be announced on Sara’s Project’s Facebook in the coming days.
