On May 25, 2018, Stanley Jack Locke, MD, 83, cherished husband and father passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. He died from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Jack was born in Ardmore, Okla., on Nov. 5, 1934, to Emmett and Joyce (Marsh) Locke. Following graduation from Ardmore High School, the great class of ‘53, he received his BA from the University of Oklahoma. He then enlisted in the US Navy serving on the USS New Jersey and USS Pocono. His service also included US Navy Flight training in Pensacola, Flo.. Jack then returned to University of Oklahoma where he received his medical degree in 1967. The residency program at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver brought Jack to Colorado. His practice as a family physician began in Lamar, Colo., in 1969. In 1978 he accepted a position with the Governor’s office to head the Rural Health Dept for Colorado that complimented his passion and advocacy for the underserved rural community. In 1980 he was appointed by Pres Jimmy Carter to the National Rural Economic Advisory Council. Jack began a private, solo medical practice in Denver, Colo. in 1983 that continued until his retirement in December 2013. He is remembered as a clinician with a superior bedside manner, deep compassion for his patients and as a perpetual student of medical science. Jack’s interests included travel, golf, his DU lecture group, and OU sports. His warm gentle sense of humor, enthusiastic friendship and his devotion to family provided an endearing example to all. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Leanna (Schilz) Locke. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Margaret (Manhart) Locke, his brother Tom (Marilyn) Locke of Ardmore, Okla., and his children John (Paige) Adams, Heather (Chris) Walker, Allison Locke, Caroline Locke, Claudia Locke and 3 grandchildren, all of the greater Denver area.
