Normally over the summer, one would expect high school kids to be enjoying time away from athletics, or simply going on a vacation.

However, for several area junior golfers, all they have been doing this summer is tearing it up on various courses across Texas and Oklahoma during multiple competitions in the South Central Junior PGA regional field.

However, for several Plainview golfers, their summer of gathering success began in June when a total of six golfers competed at the Texas-Oklahoma Jr. Golf Tournament which was held in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Tyler Neher and Blake Woerz represented the Indians in the competition, while the two-time defending 4A state champion Lady Indians were represented by Adeline Norton, Lindyn Ross, Reagan Chaney, and Hallie Schultz.

Norton managed to place fourth overall in the open division, while Ross placed a solid third in the 14-15 age division of competition.

Norton also got an invite to play at a tournament in Florida as a result of her placing in the top-five.

Speaking of Chaney and Ross, they were among a large group of local golfers who played this past week when the South Central PGA Junior Tour made a stop at Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club.

Chaney managed to win the girls 14-15 age division by one stroke over Addie Youderian, while Ross came in third just four strokes off the pace.

Carrie Hutchings and Jessica Zimmerman also represented Ardmore in the age division, finishing in fourth and fifth respectively.

Zimmerman also managed to claim gold earlier in the summer as she won the Lew Went Junior tournament at the Lew Went Memorial Golf Course in Ponca City.

Hutchings also won the Westwood Junior tournament in Norman during the month of June, with Youderian finishing tied for sixth at the same competition.

Plainview wasn’t the only school represented at Dornick Hills, as Dickson also made its mark in the girls 16-18 division.

Maisie Liddell finished second overall, with Parker Garrett claiming third. Megan Biber earned fifth overall in the division.

Garrett also competed during the month of June at the Westwood Junior tournament in Norman, where she placed second overall in her respective division.

In the girls 12-13 division at Dornick Hills, Braylee Foster from Wilson won with Ardmore’s Delaney Smith in second.

Dickson's Chase Hightower won the overall title at Dornick Hills with a 75, adding to the title he won at the Westwood Junior tournament in Norman earlier in the summer.

Ardmore’s Ethan Moen was the top local finisher in the boys 14-15 age division as he finished tied for eighth overall, with Davis’ Tator Davidson claiming 11th overall.

Landon Howell from Springer finished 17th in the division, with Ardmore’s Pranav Dahya and W. Reece Conway in 19th and 22nd respectively.

Davidson did manage to win the Westwood Junior competition by one stroke earlier this summer, while Howell finished in 13th place.

Healdton’s Brody Newton and Ardmore’s Mason Roberts finished tied for second in the boys 12-13 division, with Bliss Newton from Healdton in fourth and Jace Chaney from Ardmore in fifth.

Sulphur’s Hunter Mann finished tied for seventh in the boys 16-18 age division, with Madill’s Macen Marris tied for 13th overall.

The week prior at the Lakeside golf course in Stillwater, Mann finished tied for ninth overall along with Marris in the same division. Mann’s teammate at Sulphur Dawson Hinson finished tied for seventh in the same tournament.

The stop in Stillwater and at Dornick Hills were just part of a busy few weeks for the Sulphur duo and the Madill standout as they had previously competed at multiple other tournaments beforehand.

Mann and Hinson also competed a few days prior to their tournament at Stillwater in the South Central Junior PGA Championship, which took place at the Battle Creek Golf Course in Broken Arrow, where they faced tough competition from Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Morris, Hinson and Mann all managed to place in the top-10 respectively on June 21, when they competed at the Trosper Park Golf Course in Oklahoma City. One day before then at the Bill Nicklas Junior tournament, Mann finished tied for seventh overall with Hinson finishing in 12th place at the Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond.
