A pair of brothers from Sicily will soon be opening Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant here in Ardmore, and Frank and Timmy Di Bello are extremely excited to let the people of Southern Oklahoma enjoy their authentic, family recipes.
“We should be open this Friday, or at the very latest next Tuesday,” said Frank Di Bello. And he is ready to show off all of the hard work they have put into the location.
Work on the interior began back in October and the renovations have been extensive. In addition to the main dining area, there is also a separate room available for private parties. One of their favorite accomplishments, however, is the new bar area they have built in the back of the restaurant. While the restaurant will not initially be selling alcoholic beverages, Frank Di Bello said they should have their liquor license in about three months.
In addition to all of the work done on the building, the two have also spent hours in the kitchen perfecting their dishes. After all, their plan is to ensure that authentic Italian cuisine is one of Giovianni’s biggest attractions.
“Everything we serve comes from family recipes, and it’s all from scratch,” Frank said. And this is one family that knows all about restaurants.
Various branches of the family-run Italian restaurants are all over the country, with one located in Times Square in New York. In fact, the brothers have spent large portions of their lives working in one restaurant kitchen or another.
“I grew up in the kitchen,” Frank said. “As soon as I was 14, I knew I wanted to run my own restaurant.”
Dedicated to his dream, this goal was achieved well before opening Giovanni’s. For nine years the brothers ran a restaurant in Plano,Texas, and it was in North Texas that the two first heard about Ardmore. The brothers researched the city, and now after months of work they are ready to share their culinary prowess.
This prowess includes items ranging from chicken to seafood, to veal and, of course, homemade pasta. Other items offered include Chicago style deep dish pizza, New York style thin crust pizza, and homemade desserts.
Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant is located at 718 South Commerce. They will offer a 20 percent discount to all active duty police and firefighters.
