DICKSON — While the temperatures across the area were rising rapidly this weekend, the Dickson Lady Comets were beating the heat in their own special way.

With an all-night softball tournament.

A total of 16 teams of co-ed softball teams took to the field over the course of Friday and Saturday to help raise money for the Lady Comets softball team.

After more than 20 hours of continuous games, it was the “Fluffy Unicorns” team emerging victorious from the double elimination tournament.

Despite extreme heat rearing its ugly head the latter part of Saturday, Dickson head coach Kristin Williams couldn’t have been happier with how the fundraiser went, especially considering it was the first year of its existence.

“Things went really well overall,” she said. “The community support blew me out of the water. We had so many people here for the first game on Friday night. It was a standing room only crowd and that just left me speechless. It was awesome for our first year of doing this.”
