On August 10, the Gloria Ainsworth Child Care and Learning Center will be hosting a golf tournament and 100 percent of funds raised will be used to help renovate the facility’s two playgrounds.
The Gloria Ainsworth Child Care and Learning Center is a nationally accredited, three star child care facility. A three star rating is the highest that can be achieved in the state of Oklahoma, and only those facilities with the highest standards receive this status.
Executive Director Sally Murray explained the center’s goals.
“Our main mission is to ensure that all children develop to their fullest potential physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually,” Murray said.
Sarah Johnson, member of the Gloria Ainsworth Board of Directors and co-chair of the golf tournament, gave an example of the school fulfilling this mission.
“My son has gone there since we moved to Ardmore,” Johnson said. “By the time he started kindergarten, he was already reading two grade levels ahead.”
In order to continue providing such exemplary child care and education, the center needs to renovate their playgrounds. Murray said this will be the first time they have been updated since they moved into their current facility.
“We’ve been in our new building since 2010,” Murray said. “And daycare playgrounds get used!”
The golf tournament will be a major source of funding for these renovations. It will take place at Lakeview Golf Course, and according to Jane Seals, event co-chair, attendees will have the opportunity to raise additional funds right from the course.
“We have some local collegiate golfers who will be there supporting the tournament on the course,” Seals said. These standout students are members of various college golf teams from all across the state. They are from the Ardmore area and will be returning to their hometown to offer their skills to tournament competitors.
“For a nominal fee, you can have the collegiate golfer hit for you,” Seals said.
