Kerry Dean Hayes was born Dec. 28, 1956, to Mary Suzanne (Michels) Hayes and Russell Hayes in Hutchinson, Kan. Surrounded by family, he passed away from this world on Aug. 5, 2018, in Ardmore, at the age of 61 years, seven months, and 9 days.

Kerry was said to have spent summers on the farm in Kansas with his grandfather, Mathias Michels, and this is where Kerry learned his work ethic and his love of machinery. During Kerry’s lifetime, he worked all over the continental United States as a union millwright. As a member of the Carpenters and Millwright Union Local 216, Kerry went on to work as a union millwright at the Goodyear Tire plant in Lawton. He retired from this position in 2018.

In Jan. 2015, Kerry married the former Quenna Martin in Muskogee. At that time, they made their home in Lawton. After his retirement, they returned to Ardmore. An avid fisherman, Kerry spent many hours on Lake Texoma, camping, running his jug lines and fishing the backwaters. Kerry continued his lifetime hobby of fishing until his health declined.

Kerry was preceded in death by his father, Russell Hayes; and his good friend, fishing partner and grandfather of his two children, C.S. (Max) McKinnon.

Survivors include his wife Quenna, of the home; his mother, Mary Hayes, Ardmore; his daughter and son-in-law, Kerra Dawn and Felton Frueh, of Austin, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Dustin O’Leath and Rose Hayes, of Tulsa; his first grandson, Wolfe O’Leath Hayes; another grandson, King Holybee; and a very special granddaughter, BreAnna (Bree) Holybee. Other survivors include his brothers, Greg Hayes, of Mannsville, and Kenneth Hayes of Ardmore; the mother of his children, Kathleen Dalton of Ardmore; the paternal grandmother of his children, Linda McKinnon; a friend who he considered a brother, Mike Waller and his wife Sabrina, of Ardmore.

The family would like to thank Cross Timbers Hospice for their compassionate care of Kerry during his final time.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to Cross Timbers Hospice.

A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
