Formal felony charges were filed Monday in Carter County District Court on two Carter County residents after they were reported to local law enforcement and child protective services.

The male subject in the case was charged with three felony counts, two separate counts of child abuse by injury as to a two year old and a four year old in the home. Another felony count of child neglect was also listed in the charging documents filed Monday by the Carter County District Attorney’s office.

The female subject was also charged with felony child neglect in addition to two felony counts of enabling child abuse by injury.

The court documents allege that the male subject inflicted chronic physical abuse to a two and four year old in the home. Along with allegations of physical abuse, court documents allege that the home was unsafe for the children. The court records indicate there were a total of five children in the home.

According to court documents, the possible punishments for these felony charges include fines of $500 to $5,000 and/or a year imprisonment in the county jail for each count.

Court records indicate bonds in the amount of $1 million  for the male subject and $75,000 for the female subject are still in place, along with no contact orders restricting both from being in contact with any children.
