Despite going through the first day of the Plainview Invitational undefeated, the Lady Indians found the going a little tougher on Saturday at the Ardmore Regional Park softball complex.

Plainview fell in the winners bracket semifinals against Valliant, before Calera eliminated them from the tournament.

The Lady Indians (10-6) will be back in action at 5 p.m. Monday at Byng in district play.

Valliant 2
Plainview 1

Plainview’s six-game winning streak came to a screeching halt Saturday afternoon against the Valliant Lady Bulldogs in a close contest.

The Lady Indians fell behind in the bottom of the second when Valliant scored a pair of runs.

Taryn Martin got Plainview on the board with an RBI double in the top of the fifth.

Despite getting multiple runners on base throughout the rest of the game, the Lady Indians weren’t able to get the tying or the go-ahead run across the plate.

Riley Grant took the loss on the mound, throwing three innings. She allowed two earned runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Martin threw one inning, allowing just one hit with one walk and one strikeout.

Calera 7
Plainview 3

Less than 24 hours after earning a hard fought victory against Calera on Friday, the Lady Indians tried to re-create that same magic on Saturday.

Unfortunately, Calera came back stronger this time and managed to defeat Plainview by four runs.

Plainview fell behind in the top of the second inning when Calera scored five runs.

However, the Lady Indians got back in the game with three runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Brooke Castillo scored on an error, before Jenna Jennings laid down a bunt, which also led to an error, allowing Kyla Treadwell to score, making it 5-2.

Another Calera error led to the third Plainview run of the game, when Taryn Martin hit a fly ball allowing Brinkley Campbell to score.

Unfortunately, there wouldn’t be anymore errors by Calera, as two more runs were scored in the top of the sixth to seal the Lady Indians second straight defeat.

Martin threw two innings in the game for Plainview, allowing five earned runs on two hits with four walks.

Riley Grant tossed four innings for the Lady Indians, allowing two runs (0 earned) on three hits with four walks and one strikeout.
