A lot has happened in the last two weeks in district 4A-3.

Unfortunately for the Plainview Lady Indians, they have been on the receiving end of the bad news over that span of time.

Friday afternoon, the Byng Lady Pirates added to the bad news, as they completed a season sweep at the Plainview softball field by a score of 11-3, dropping the Lady Indians to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in district play.

Plainview now sits in the fourth and final playoff spot, just one game ahead of Pauls Valley.

The Lady Indians are scheduled to be at home Tuesday afternoon against the Comanche Lady Indians.

Byng took the lead in the top of the first inning with a single run, before adding two more runs in the top of the second.

Plainview got on the board in the bottom of the second when Brooklyn Storts got an RBI double to center field.

However, the Lady Pirates got two runs in the top of the third to increase the deficit to 5-1.

In the top of the fifth, Byng added two more runs to make it a 7-1 lead.

Plainview attempted to rally in the bottom of the sixth when Brinkley Campbell got a sacrifice fly RBI to score Riley Grant.

Brooke Castillo then got an RBI single to score Kyra Treadwell to make it 7-3.

But the Lady Pirates would add four more runs to seal the victory.

Riley Grant took the loss on the mound for Plainview, throwing 4 2/3 innings of work. She allowed five earned runs on seven hits with four walks.

Taryn Martin threw 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one earned run on four hits.

District play will resume for the Lady Indians on Sept. 10 against Pauls Valley following the Lake County Conference tournament which is scheduled to begin on Thursday and run through Saturday at the Plainview softball complex.

Plainview will open the tournament on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against the Byng Lady Pirates with the winner playing either Sulphur, Comanche or Marietta in the semifinal round of the LCC Tournament, while the loser would play on Friday in the losers bracket.
