Following their victory at the Red River Invitational to open the 2018 season, the Marietta cross country teams made a trip to the Lone Star State this past weekend for the highly competitive Marcus I Invitational race at North Lakes Park in Denton.

Following their victory at the Red River Invitational to open the 2018 season, the Marietta cross country teams made a trip to the Lone Star State this past weekend for the highly competitive Marcus I Invitational race at North Lakes Park in Denton.

Amongst a field consisting of Class 6A through 4A teams, the Indians and Lady Indians managed to hold their own, each turning in solid performances in their respective races.

A total of eight runners represented the Lady Indians in the girls race, with defending state champion Mandy Sykora finishing in the top-40 at 34th overall with a time of 19:20.

Kaelyn Dobbins clocked in at 20:02, with Vanessa Rodriguez at 20:26.

Other finishers for the Lady Indians included Vegas Bell (21:28), Lexi Waterhouse (22:36), Abby Alvarez (22:42), Monica Flores (22:56), and Monica Salazar (23:38).

In the boys race, Preston Whisenhunt was the top finisher at 16:42, followed by Zane Nutter at 16:50.

Danny Sanchez clocked in at 17:01, with Chase Waterhouse at 17:10, and Connor Vinson at 22:18.

Marietta will run Saturday at the Lake Country Conference race at the Madill City Lake.
