For the Madill Wildcats, it was the second time that turned out to be the charm Friday night.

A low-scoring contest against the Lone Grove Longhorns went in favor of the Wildcats, as they managed to win their first game of the season 13-8 on the road at Longhorn Stadium.

Madill got on the board in the first quarter when Fermin Laffita broke loose for a 63-yard touchdown run before Mateo Fajardo added the extra point to make it 7-0 with 11:46 left in the frame.

Lone Grove however got into the lead just over 10 minutes later when Michael Ramsay scored from two yards out, before adding the two point conversion, making it 8-7.

In what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown, it was Laffita scoring from five yards out with just over seven minutes left before halftime, giving the Wildcats a 13-8 lead following the failed two-point conversion.

Laffita finished the game with 27 carries for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Lone Grove totaled 167 yards of offense in the contest.

Madill (1-1) is on the road at 7 p.m. Friday night against Dickson, while Lone Grove is on a bye this week and return to action on Sept. 21 against Pauls Valley on the road to begin district play against the Panthers.
