Knowing nothing less than a sweep would keep them in the hunt for a district title, the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs made sure it was mission accomplished Monday afternoon at Byng.

A commanding 16-0 opening game victory was followed by a 7-1 win, giving Sulphur two important district victories, and keeping them firmly in second place in district 4A-3, just one game in the loss column behind leaders Lone Grove.

Sulphur improved to 22-5 overall and 8-2 in district play, and will be at home at 5:30 p.m. today taking on Washington.

Four straight innings of scoring was more than enough to propel the Lady Bulldogs to a comfortable series opening victory in five innings.

Sulphur scored five in the first, followed by four in the second, three in the third and four more in the fourth to finish off the contest.

Ally Dixon led the offensive attack for Sulphur going 2-for-4 at the plate with five RBI’s, followed by Abby Beck who went 2-for-2 with three runs scored to go with four RBI’s.

Harley Beesley also had a solid day in the opening game going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI’s.

Macenzie Ruth, Kinlee Duck, Lady Lynch, and Blakelyn Barber all had one RBI in the game.

Beesley got the win on the mound for the Lady Bulldogs, throwing five innings. She allowed just two hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

While there was another early scoring barrage by the Lady Bulldogs in game two, the game did manage to go the full seven innings.

However, the length of the game was not a problem as Sulphur completed a sweep with a six run victory.

The Lady Bulldogs got four runs in the first inning followed by two in the second.

Byng managed to get its only run of the series in the bottom of the sixth, before the Lady Bulldogs iced the game with a run in the top of the seventh.

Kady Lynch led the offense for Sulphur going 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI’s, with Macenzie Ruth and Ally Dixon each finishing with one RBI. 

Blakelyn Barber took the win in the circle for Sulphur, throwing a complete game. She allowed one run (0 earned) on three hits with five walks and four strikeouts.
