Through two games of district play, the Madill Wildcats had to endure some tough losses.

However, Friday night provided them with a slice of good fortune, as well as a thrilling contest.

Wildcats quarterback Asa Robertson accounted for 174 rushing yards including a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give Madill a 40-39 victory over the Harrah Panthers at Blake Smiley Stadium.

The win was the first district victory for the Wildcats as a 4A team.

Harrah took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, before Madill got on the board when Bret McDaniel rushed for a 22-yard touchdown to make it 13-7 with 4:57 left in the first quarter.

Robertson then gave the Wildcats the lead nine seconds into the second quarter with a 17-yard touchdown run to make it 14-13.

However, the Panthers came right back with 13 unanswered points to retake the lead at 26-14.

Fermin Laffita managed to give the Wildcats some momentum when he scored a 13-yard rushing touchdown to make it 26-20 with 4:07 left before halftime.

But it was the Panthers who went into the locker room with momentum on their side after an eight-yard touchdown run made it 32-20.

As the third quarter began, Robertson sparked the Wildcats with his arm.

Ryan Shahan was on the receiving end of a 31-yard pass from the Wildcats quarterback, making it a 32-27 game after the extra point with 8:23 left in the quarter.

Harrah managed to get one more score on the board in the third, to make it a 39-27 contest.

However a 10-yard run by Robertson put Madill within striking distance at 39-34 at the 8:51 mark of the fourth quarter, before his late heroics won the game for Madill.

Laffita finished the game with 13 carries for 84 yards, while Robertson was 2-of-5 passing for 64 yards with one touchdown.
