Funeral services for Gary Dean Smith are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at Mary Niblack Baptist Church with Rev. Derrick Crawford officiating. Interment will follow at Provence Cemetery.

Gary was born Aug. 16, 1943, to William Stanley Smith and Cora Edith (Stice) Smith in Chandler, Okla. He passed this life on Oct. 5, 2018, at his residence in Ardmore.   

He and Nelda Dahlke were married June 2, 1962, in Cushing, Okla. They were married for 56 years.

Gary worked in the Engineering department for OG&E and served his country in the Army National Guard. He retired from OG&E in July of 1994. Member of the Mary Niblack Baptist Church and an active volunteer at Springdale Community Center.

He is survived by his wife Nelda of the home; daughters, Janet Sanders and her husband Robbie, of Wanette, Jennifer Hays and her husband Jerry, of Durant; brother, Lonnie Ray Smith and his wife Fern, of Ardmore; sister, Betty Buttram, of Tecumseh, Okla.; grandsons, Tyler Sanders, of Wanette, Coleman Sanders and his wife Ashlei, of Oklahoma City; granddaughters, Logan Hays and Candace Hays, both of Durant; great-grandson, Tobias Sanders, of Oklahoma City. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Goldie Stidham and Ruth Stone; brother, Stanley “Ernie” Smith. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Don Scott, Glen C. Jones, Andy Munson, Earl Collins, Mike Wilson and Freddie Vinson.

Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Sanders, Coleman Sanders, Isaac Goodin, Andrew McArthur, Robbie Sanders, Jerry Hays, Bobby Dodge, Tony Keith and Bob Mitchell.

The family would like to thank Cross Timbers Hospice and Ideal Home Care for their special attention during a very difficult time.
