Ardmore, OK —

The Carter County 4-H Shooting Sports Club is launching its archery program at 6 tonight at the Carter County Health Department. Participants  should  enter through the north door.

Participants must complete eight hours of training from a 4-H-certified instructor before they can attend practice sessions.    Members are also expected to complete the hunter education training class to participate in district and state competitions. The Shooting Sports Club dues are $10 plus a $1 charge for 4-H activity insurance.

Participants in the shotgun discipline have had a very successful fall. During the state skeet match in September, in the 10-11 age division, Jake Ratcliffe, Plainview, placed first and Tanner Hale, Dickson, placed second. Walker Evans, Plainview, tied for third in the 16 year olds and up division and placed fifth after the shoot off. Other participants were Bryce Fore and Max Evans both of Plainview.

At the 4-H state trap shoot match on Oct. 24 in El Reno, Bodie Stoker, Dickson, placed first in the 10-11 age division with a score of 46 out of 50. Other members of the junior team were Ratcliffe, Plainview, and Hale and Jonathon Callaway, both of Dickson.  The senior team members were Walker Evans and Fore.

Carter County 4-H Shooting Sports Club members said they are grateful for the support they have from their certified volunteer instructors, Keith Morgan, Donald Callaway, Jennifer Evans and Craig Watkins.

The club members also expressed appreciation to Jud Little for the use of his range and the Friends of the NRA.

Over the past several years, all three disciplines received funding for supplies from the Friends of the NRA.

Parents are encouraged to attend these activities with their children. The club is also looking for 4-H volunteers to serve as instructors in each of the three disciplines. Instructors are trained on a state level, but assistant instructors are trained in each county by current instructors.

For more information about serving as a 4-H volunteer, attend a club meeting, call the OSU Extension Office at (580) 223-6570 or come by the office at 107 1st Ave. S.W. in the Courthouse Annex.
