The Ardmore Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore is looking for a bigger and better home after a year at its present location.
The Habitat ReStore, a thrift store whose profits go to building Habitat for Humanity homes, is only open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. The ReStore is currently located on the corner of North Washington Street and East Broadway Street.
Jack Scott, executive director of Ardmore Habitat for Humanity, said that he is planning an “exploratory mission” to similar stores in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Stillwater to see how they operate. Scott points to Stillwater as being especially similar to Ardmore.
“They have a very successful ReStore,” Scott said, “it’s raising all the funding they need.”
Scott said he hopes to expand the Ardmore ReStore to a five-day-a-week operation and hire someone from the community to run it.
“We have a lot of people who have learned about our store who are a very loyal clientele,” Scott said, “We just want to expand that and look for a far more suitable location that will allow us to expand the size of our operation and our operation as well.”
Habitat board member Melanie Davis said that store primarily carries building supplies and fixtures, but there is “no limit” to what people can donate. She said the store gets lots of donations from people who would rather donate than have garage sales.
“We have a lot of things like light fixtures, paint, doorknobs,” Davis said, “a lot of things that are construction related but a lot of things that aren’t.”
Davis said that donations to the store are tax deductible according to their value. Donations can be dropped off at the store during business hours, or a pick-up can be scheduled with the Habitat office by calling (580) 465-0339.
