Ardmore Police Chief Keith Mann has announced the addition of Cody Garrett to the patrol division.
Garrett recently graduated from the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training Basic Academy. He is presently assigned to the department’s Field Training Program and serves on the evening shift.
A law enforcement legacy, Garrett is the son of former APD Chief Tony Garrett. He said his father’s longtime career influenced his own decision to follow a similar law enforcement path.
“After high school I got a job as a mechanic. While I enjoyed the work, I always felt I wanted to follow my dad in serving the public and making the community a stronger and better place to live, work and raise a family,” Garrett said. “The time to make the change was now. Ardmore Police Department was recruiting. I wanted to work here. I applied and was accepted.”
Garrett’s immediate career goal is straight forward — his heart lies with the front line of response in the patrol division.
“I like being on the streets. The job is never boring. Everyday is different and I like knowing I can make a difference in the lives of the citizens we serve,” he said. “I want to be the best officer I can be, gain all the experience I can and be an asset to the department, the city and the citizens.”
Mann said Garrett exemplifies the traits the APD is seeking in its’ officer recruiting efforts.
“Cody, like all the new officers, went through an stringent and lengthy application process. I’m pleased to have him at APD. He represents the type of applicant we want — he is grounded in this community and committed to serving. I look forward to watching Cody grow and mature as a police officer,” Mann said.
Garrett attended Edmond North High School and after moving to Ardmore completed his education in a home school environment, graduating in 2000.
He and his wife, Talisha have three children, two daughters ages 18 and 16 and a 6-year-old son.
Garrett enjoys spending time with his family and is active in his church.
