Police arrested three Ardmore men and a Texas man late Wednesday night when they were discovered leaving an apartment complex with more than 5 pounds of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash.
Bryant E. French, 28, Brannon P. Jones, 22, and Lorell T. Skanes, 23, were taken into custody without incident, along with 26-year-old Eric. D. Smith, Allen, about 11:30 p.m., according to Allen Police Department reports. The arrests came after Jones was stopped on traffic violations as he drove the others away from the Chaparral Townhomes. During the traffic stop, officers observed an effort inside the car to conceal a garbage bag.
Jones refused to allow police to search the vehicle. Officers then called an Allen K-9 officer and his dog to the scene. The dog alerted on the car, which led to a recovery of the marijuana stash that had been concealed in the garbage bag and to the seizure of more than $6,000 in cash found in another plastic bag. The four men were arrested on felony possession of marijuana charges. Skanes, who attempted to give officers a false name, could also face an additional charge.
Thursday afternoon an Allen Police Department spokesman said the four men had been transported to the Collin County Jail at McKinney, Texas, and were expected to make court appearances. Information concerning those court appearances was not immediately available.
