Her membership started with a conversation and an invitation to lunch with a co-worker.
The next thing Lori Meyers knew, she and Trina Clark, her co-worker at Urgent Care, had joined the Ardmore Young Professionals.
“I look forward to meeting everybody and doing stuff in the community, like how they were picking up trash. It sounds fun getting to know all of them,” Meyers said.
The lunch was one of AYP’s monthly Lunch Bunches organized by the membership committee and geared towards introducing new members to the organization.
Jodi Woydziak also got her start with AYP through Lunch Bunch.
“It’s an opportunity to meet people in the area and do something for the community,” Woydziak said.
After attending Lunch Bunch and joining AYP, new members are encouraged to join one of the organization’s four main committees — membership, service, social and community. Woydziak has joined the service committee.
“So far, everyone has been great and very willing to listen to my ideas. I’m really impressed,” Woydziak said.
The committee is currently sponsoring its annual prom dress drive.
“I’m excited for the prom dress drive. I don’t have anything, but my daughter’s a sophomore and she’s donated,” Woydziak said.
Despite the lack of meetings for the entire membership, young professionals stay informed through weekly E- blasts, which include information on all the committees.
“It’s nice to get the blasts every week and stay informed on all the committees,” Woydziak said.
Even if someone is not a member of a particular committee, he or she can attend any event the organization sponsors. Woydziak said she is looking forward to the annual poker tournament organized by the social committee.
“My husband will be able to come, and I’ll get to see more of the membership than I’ve seen at Lunch Bunch,” she said.
The steering committee, made up of committee chairs and other nominated young professionals, links the various committees, activities and programs of AYP.
All in all, AYP even offers new opportunities for Ardmore natives on the steering committee.
“AYP has introduced me to new people in the community, given me the direction to help where I am needed, and shown me that I can have a good time while doing just about anything,” social committee chair Sarah Clay said.
