Local and area residents are encouraged to support an upcoming memorial tribute and traffic safety program by Police Chief Linda Johnson.
The memorial tribute, Project Blue Light, is a national observance scheduled May 11-17 as a remembrance of law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty and officers who continue to serve and protect people and communities. Johnson and Marietta officers request citizens join the observance by displaying a blue light in the window of their home or business.
Johnson said local police will also team with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol from May 15 through June 1 for “Click it or Ticket,” a special emphasis enforcement project encouraging the use of vehicle seat belt and restraint systems.
“We hope this will lower our traffic accident injuries and deaths,” Johnson said of the emphasis enforcement plan.
