Pamela Matthews has waived a preliminary hearing and has a formal arraignment scheduled at 9 a.m., Mar. 7 on the charges of embezzlement.
Matthews is charged with one count of embezzlement for “fraudulently appropriating the sum of $200,000 that belonged to Day Concrete Company.” The charge indicates Matthews diverted money for her own use, “which had been provided to her as an employee of Day Concrete Company by various customers.”
The crime is punishable by imprisonment in the state penitentiary for two years to life.
The charges follow a pattern for the Lone Grove resident. In 2003, Matthews pleaded guilty under the name Pam Gibson on four counts of embezzlement totaling $127,000 from Arbuckle Wilderness. Gibson was given a 10-year suspended sentence in Murray County District Court. On Dec. 19, 2011, an application was turned in to revoke the order suspending execution of that sentence. Matthews was also charged with obtaining cash or merchandise by bogus check on Aug. 9, 2011 and formal arraignment in that case has also been scheduled for Mar. 7.
Matthews is currently free on an oral recognizance bond.
Matthews is the wife of Lone Grove City Councilman Jeff Matthews. Councilman Matthews has not been implicated in the embezzlement. Attempts to reach the councilman for comment were unsuccessful.
