Narcotics officers put the brakes on a methamphetamine manufacturing operation being carried out at a rural Wilson residence Wednesday afternoon and are searching for the man believed to have been “cooking” the illicit drug.
Capt. Gregg Johnson, Carter County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Division, said an undercover investigation was launched into activities at the residence of Ewart W. Smith II after his office began receiving reports from citizens concerning suspicious activity in and around the house.
The undercover investigation provided narcotics officers with enough information to obtain a search warrant.
The warrant was served by the CCSD with assistance from Ardmore Police Department narcotics officers.
Officers confiscated numerous items used in the manufacturing process, including what Johnson described as “a tank we believe contains anhydrous ammonia.” Also seized was drug paraphernalia.
“Mr. Smith was not at the residence at the time the search warrant was executed,” Johnson said. “We will be seeking an arrest warrant for him.”
Smith is described as a 45-year-old Caucasian male. He weighs approximately 210 pounds and is 6 feet tall. Smith has blue eyes and wears glasses. He is balding in front with medium length brown hair on the sides and back of his head. Smith may be wearing a mustache and beard.
Persons with information concerning Smith’s whereabouts are urged to contact the Carter County Sheriff’s Department a (580) 223-6014.
